Your bumper though...

Almost hit 2 baby mooses today and another poster hit a deer in his miata. It's been a rough day for wildlife.

Probably was a little one. I hit a much larger one, and well, it knocked the shit out of my wallet.

Missed it by that much, I was about to reply that haha

an excuse to ziptie it? The steel plate I bent back into place with a ratchet hoist and the top and bottom plastic guards I'll just have to fasten somehow since the plastic snap fasteners broke. Honestly I can't believe how little damage there was. 80 km/h hit

Is that deer shit?
![]() 10/20/2014 at 23:24 |

Yeah guys. All standing around looking at the blood and gut covered truck. I should go to bed it took me like 20 min to figure out what the hell you were talking about.

aye that it is. The deer assploded.
![]() 10/20/2014 at 23:30 |

What kind of sound did it make when it exploded?
![]() 10/20/2014 at 23:33 |

Just a hard thud. The truck actually shifted it's weight after the 80km/h hit

That's an 05-07 front end, but a 99-02 Powerstroke badge, is it a front end swap or just a different badge?
Edit: Don't see coils, so guessing front end swap.

holy smokes how close were you to hitting them? Did they run across as you were driving or did they freeze and you had to swerve to avoid them?

Self-Tapping Sheet Metal Screws. They hold the plastic on my Rangers front bumper, and the front plate onto my Miata :P (the holes were already there when i bought the miata)

That's right, it's the 7.3

I like the fronts of the 05-07's better, so I like these swaps.

yeah got the best powerstroke with a 6 speed, leaf spring front and the updated fascia. Seriously love that truck. Good eye by the way, you sure know your SD's

I'm kind of a diesel-truckaphile, they are my thing and I don't even own one. You can't go wrong with a six speed. What year is it?

as soon as I slammed on the brakes they ran of back in the woods I got lucky they did not freeze or run across cause then it would of been real close. I did not have to swerve I was able to stop in time.

I saw your post, good job being careful. Usually when I'm out of the city I'll drive with an eye out for them but this happened one kilometer from my house which is in a suburb. Spazzy deer came out of nowhere.

it's a 2000. I actually feel guilty driving it since I bought it to replace my pos 5.4 triton which was primarily used as a hunting truck, making the occasional haul but mostly just staying put. I don't appreciate it as much as other truck lovers and don't really drive it (but when I do I kill deer whether I want to or not, apparently). This truck really is 1000x better than the f150 it replaces, especially with the locking front hubs, lever operated 2 speed transfer case (the electronic actuated one in my f150 is crap), and crawl gear (love telling people it's technically a dog-leg gearbox). I don't think I've ever read of anything going wrong with one of these besides cracked leafs, which I just found out I have.

The 2001? and later trucks have weaker pistons, so when people try to modify it with a tuner, they end up blowing them. 99-00 have forged. Also, there is nothing wrong with having something impractical. You wanted it so you got it.

So, since the truck cleaned it, did you take it home for stew?
Better not this scenario:

Glad to hear someone on oppo approves and appreciates my "bro" truck. So what do you drive, or hope to drive? Toyota fanboy tells me a 4runner or a land cruiser is right up your alley. I see jdm hilux surfs often, being in Canada. Badass trucks that make me think of topgear trying to kill theirs each time I see one. If I were to build an offroader, that'd be the truck I'd use without a doubt.

A bro'd 4Runner.
She's slow, it's plates are even SLWRNNR, but I like it a lot.

Dude that's awesome. And I would never own a truck for its speed. I granny shift the SD every where I go because speed is just not what those kinds of cars are meant for. I watched regular car reviews the other day and they had a red '86 4runner 2.0 that could convince me to take up a life of rock crawling, it was awesome. So what's done to the slowrunner besides the lift?

A K&N filter and a shitty custom cat-back by the P.O., that's all I know. It has possibly/probably been re-geared at some point, but I don't really know. All I know is in low it'll move a stuck truck that a Cummins won't. That was probably due to me just giving it hell, because of not being afraid of it breaking, but it did move it. But hopefully at some point it will get a manual trans swap and someday the 3VZE will be long gone.

Cool man, you gonna put more offroader parts in eventually? Or get a different Toyota truck?

Probably going to keep it as a weekend toy to beat around the local forrest roads, and then buy an 80-series to have as a dedicated overlander. That's the 5-10 year plan, so that might change.

I nailed a deer a couple of years ago with a 2005 Tahoe, my deer exploded too. Took me about half an hour to re-attach the bumper, no big deal. A friend gave me a deer whistle thingy, attach it to your bumper and its supposed to scare them away. No more incidences since then, not sure if the whistle really make a difference or I've been lucky.
